On the gravity of the present moment and its impact on the Palestinian people
The Spanish Commission for Justice and Peace,
Aware of the gravity of the present moment in which we seem to be witnessing the abandonment of the ideals that inspired the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which called for the advent of a world in which human beings would be free from fear and want.
Concerned by the growing disregard for multilateralism and the international spheres of awareness, vigilance and management of conflict situations that affect humanity.
Concerned by the clamor of so many people deprived of their rights and freedoms, and by the insufficient and sometimes calculated inaction of certain actors, institutions and media.
United with the voices expressing the demand for respect for international human rights law and the dignity of every person:
- We demand the protection of the Palestinian people and their right to remain in their land, as well as respect for the two-state solution, the end of Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory and the right of Palestine to be an independent state.
- We urge the European Union and, in particular, the Spanish government to strongly reject any proposal that promotes the forced displacement of the Palestinian people from their territory.
- We denounce that the proposal announced these days by the US Government "violates all applicable principles of international humanitarian and human rights law, mocks decades of efforts by the international community to achieve a just and sustainable peace for the peoples of the region".
- We join the voices calling for an end to the violence and the necessary measures for a permanent ceasefire, as well as the fluid access of humanitarian aid from all actors who have been carrying out these tasks.
- We express our commitment to be close to the people oppressed and persecuted for defending their rights and to seek peace based on justice for those who suffer under the tyranny of the powerful in this world.
