On the occasion of DANA's virulence

30/10/2024
After the tragedy in the Levante of the country caused by DANA [1], we state our concern for all those people who have seen how their lives were destroyed within a few minutes. We are sorry for the worsening of these phenomena, which are a visible side of global warming that is also affecting our country.

We are full of sadness due to the loss of lives and the destruction caused by the catastrophic rough weather accompanied by rains, storms and tornadoes that hit the Mediterranean coast on the night of 29 October. The total number of victims is still unknown.

The Spanish Commission for Justice and Peace shows its solidarity with the people living in affected provinces, especially Valencia, but also Albacete, Cuenca and the possibility of extension of Castellón, the Gulf of Cádiz and Huelva. We send our condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. In particular, we express our support to those from Justice and Peace who have experienced this disaster. Our prayers are with all the victims and the people affected.

Emergency teams are responding actively to rescue and to provide support. The path to reconstruction will need a long-term commitment of humanitarian and economic help. It is crucial that our support and solidarity reach that place. We should work together to achieve the reconstruction.
